However, because zinc selenide is a soft material that is easy to be scratched, it is not suitable for use in harsh working conditions (Knoop hardness is only 120), and because it is a toxic substance, it is necessary to always wear rubber or plastic gloves when handling zinc selenide lenses to avoid injury.
