Nd:Ce:YAG Laser Crystal Rods
.Introduction:
Nd:Ce:YAG is a YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet) crystal doped with neodymium (Nd) and cerium (Ce). It is an ideal laser gain media for air-cooled lasers(solid-state lasers)and is widely used in small laser rangefinders and laser medical devices. It features high efficiency, low threshold, good resistance to ultraviolet radiation, and good thermal stability. Under the same pumping conditions, Nd:Ce:YAG has less thermal distortion and outputs 30% to 50% more laser energy than Nd:YAG. Therefore, using Nd:Ce:YAG as the crystal for a laser can provide better beam quality and higher power. Nd:Ce:YAG and Nd:YAG have the same laser wavelength of 1064nm, as well as the same laser damage threshold and thermal conductivity.
Compared with the laser of the lamp pump, the emission spectrum of the pump lamp is actually a broadband continuous pump, and only a few spectral peaks match the Nd ion absorption peak, so the general lamp pump only uses a small part of the spectral energy, and the efficiency is low. On the basis of Nd:YAG crystal, Ce ions are added to form Ce:Nd:YAG crystals, which use the absorption of Ce ions into the ultraviolet spectral region and transfer energy to Nd ions in a radiation-free transition, thereby increasing the utilization rate of the spectrum, thus improving the laser output efficiency, reducing the laser threshold, and thus improving the repetition rate characteristics.
