Silicon single crystal is a type of chemically inert material,Ultra-pure silicon in the range of 1 ~ 7μm band has a great transmittance rate for infrared light from 90% to 95%, while in the far infrared band its transmittance can also perform well. Compared with Ge (Germanium) its carrier absorption is much weaker, as a result, we can control silicon’s temperature rising much more easily.
Silicon single crystal is used as the substrate of the 3-5µm band infrared optical window and optical filter commonly and because of its good thermal conductivity and low density, it is also used for laser reflector.
